160th Anniversary of “The Little Union”

On January 24, 1859, the Romanian Principalities, Moldavia and Walachia, decided to unite under the rule Alexandru Ioan Cuza. Known as the “Little Union,” this historic act constitute the first step toward today’s Romanian unitary national state.

“Hora of Unity” (Hora Unirii) song is sung and danced especially on this day.

Let’s join hands,
Those with Romanian hearts
To go round the dance of brotherhood
On Romania’s land!

May the bad seed disappear
May the enmity in the country be gone
Let there only be
Flowers and kindness among us!
